Bridging the gap between construction and forestry: The IMPACTT project
The IMPACTT project (Innovative Mapping and Processes to Advance Construction Timber Transparency) aims to enhance transparency and sustainability in timber use within the construction industry. This project addresses critical knowledge gaps and promotes responsible timber sourcing through comprehensive research and innovative mapping techniques..
Survey insights and supply chain mapping to address timber sourcing and sustainable forest management
An extensive survey targeting professionals within the construction sector was conducted to identify and address misconceptions related to sustainable forest management and timber sourcing. The findings from this survey are compiled in the downloadable report, which provides insights into the current state of knowledge and highlights areas that require further education.
Maps of timber supply chains sampling ten construction projects across the UK, the Netherlands, and Belgium include a variety of building types, including commercial, public, and educational structures. The supply chains are presented as interactive maps, which illustrate the journey of timber from forests to construction sites, offering a transparent view of the entire process, enhancing accountability and providing a visual representation of timber sourcing. The interactive map is available in the “Supply Chain Maps for 10 Timber Projects” and “Further Resources” items of this page.
The IMPACTT project is designed for developers, architects, and engineers who specify and use timber in their projects. Additionally, contractors and end-users who are interested in understanding the environmental impact of the timber used in their buildings will find the resources valuable. Sustainability advocates focused on promoting responsible practices within the construction industry will also benefit from the insights provided by the project.
Supported by Built by Nature and various industry partners the project is concluded in February 2025.
