Built by Nature France Launches with €376,000 BBCA Grant Partnership
PARIS September 30 – Built by Nature (BbN), the not-for-profit organisation with a mission to lead a global transformation of the built environment by accelerating the responsible use of timber and biobased materials, has launched a new national network in France.
‘Built by Nature France’, the sixth national BbN network in Europe dedicated to transformation of the construction industry through timber and biobased materials, will be administered by the Association pour le Développement du Bâtiment Bas Carbone (BBCA). BbN has awarded a €376,000 grant to BBCA to run the network because of its strong connections across the sector and proven track-record of catalysing industry decarbonisation.
The three-year project marks a significant expansion for BbN, bringing its collaborative network model to one of Europe’s largest and most advanced construction markets. France represents 19% of Europe’s construction material demand and stands as a global leader in the shift toward biobased and low-carbon construction. Bold policies have underpinned this progress, most notably RE2020 which introduced embodied carbon caps for new buildings.
“Built by Nature is excited by the significant progress seen in regenerative, biobased construction in France,” said Paul King, Built by Nature CEO. “By partnering with BBCA, we aim to accelerate the momentum, share learnings across borders, and help shape a future where buildings are part of the climate solution.”
BBCA will lead the design, setup, and consolidation phases of the new network within its existing community of developers, investors, architects, and public bodies. The team will also play an active role in BbN’s Europe-wide learning network across the UK, Netherlands, Spain, Italy, and Germany to foster pan-European exchange and collaboration.
“With BBCA’s track record in carbon labelling, investor engagement, and policy influence at French and European level, this partnership is a logical and exciting next step ,” said Stanislas Pottier, President of BBCA. “We are honoured to receive Built by Nature’s support and look forward to uniting French frontrunners to keep on driving lasting, low-carbon transformation — while contributing to a broader European movement.”
By 2028, the initiative aims to have established a thriving, self-sustaining network of up to 50 frontrunner organisations, along with outputs from working groups, a model for long-term network growth and deepened collaboration between national and global counterparts. The first step towards this new network will be an exploratory webinar, hosted by BBCA, on October 30th at 11:00 CET.
