Brigit Gerritse Appointed to Built by Nature Board

AMSTERDAM, June 16. Built by Nature is proud to welcome Brigit Gerritse to its Board of Directors. With more than 30 years of experience in the built environment, Brigit brings a deep understanding of how to align environmental and social goals in urban development. These insights will be vital as Built by Nature continues to drive the timber and biobased material transformation across Europe and beyond.
As Managing Director of the Dutch Green Building Council (DGBC), Brigit is a leading voice in the movement to accelerate sustainability in the built environment. Her background in urban planning and her work across public and private sectors have shaped a career defined by collaboration, systems thinking, and a commitment to long-term impact. Under her leadership, DGBC has sharpened its attention on the housing challenge, working with housing associations and international partners to accelerate sustainable, affordable, and just solutions.
“I believe that a built environment without ecological or social value has no future value, and therefore no economic value. Built by Nature plays a vital role in connecting the people and ideas that can turn this insight into action. I’m excited to contribute to that mission.”
Brigit takes over the board seat from Pablo van der Lugt, who has been with Built by Nature since its founding. A tireless advocate for timber construction and a trusted voice in the field, Pablo has helped shape the organisation’s vision from day one. Built by Nature extends its deepest thanks for his dedication and expertise.
Commenting on the changes, Built by Nature Chairman Donald Brenninkmeijer said:
“Pablo van der Lugt is a visionary and committed champion of timber. On behalf of the whole board, I want to thank him for his hugely significant impact on Built by Nature – and the wider sector – during his time with us.
“We welcome Brigit as new board member as a seasoned leader who brings a deep commitment to sustainable transformation in the built environment. Her leadership and insight will be invaluable as we continue to drive forward our vision of a built environment in harmony with nature.”
