Built by Nature team adds Tom Poldre as Interim Communications Lead

Built by Nature is very pleased to have Tom Poldre on board as the Interim Lead for Communications, responsible for ensuring that our network’s innovation and implementation narratives are amplified and extended as we accelerate mass timber adoption in the European and U.K. construction industries.

The appointment reflects a unique intersection of Tom’s depth of experience in the property development and construction sectors internationally, along with his work in corporate sustainability and carbon management.

Before joining Built by Nature, Tom headed up communications at B Lab UK (B Corps) and prior to that, at the UK Green Building Council. For the past ten years, Tom has provided senior-level communications advice to one of North America’s leading developers, owners and managers of AAA real estate, currently pursuing significant international acquisition.

Tom’s experience in communications began on the creative side in the Canadian advertising industry, expanded to public relations agency positions in Hong Kong, Singapore and Bangkok as well as business development responsibilities at DuPont Canada in the field of carbon management and emissions credit trading. He has also led in-house communications departments in Ontario’s municipal, colleges and healthcare sectors.

“I have a great deal of personal affinity for the Built by Nature mission,” said Tom. “My father was an old-school master carpenter, so I grew up in a woodworking household exposed to the functionality and beauty of wood. Having seen the application of mass timber in some inspiring and innovative projects, I’m convinced that there’s huge opportunity for new thinking and new hybrid models. There’s momentum underway, and I’m excited to be a part of it.”

Tom has an MBA from York University’s Schulich School of Business in Toronto, and a Bachelor of Arts degree from the University of Toronto. He has taught both Integrated Marketing Communications and Media Relations programmes at the University of Guelph-Humber, and Public Relations at Bangkok’s Thammasat University.
