Terms and Conditions for the Built by Nature (BbN) 2025 Prize
1. Eligibility
The BbN 2025 Prize is open to completed and in-use buildings predominantly made of timber and biobased materials. Entries can be submitted by anyone involved in the project, but must include the full project team and confirmation of application permissions. Each organisation may submit up to three buildings. Built by Nature reserves the right to refuse entry to any building not fulfilling these parameters.
2. Application Process
Applications open at 09:00 CET on April 7, 2025, and close at 23:59 CET on May 31, 2025. All applications must be submitted through the Built by Nature website. English is the preferred language for applications; translation services will be provided if required, upon request via prize@builtbn.org. This request must be made at least two weeks before the closure of the application window.
3. Judging Criteria
Submissions will be judged by a panel of international experts based on their alignment with the Principles for Responsible Timber Construction. The judging process includes initial assessment and expert review. Projects that meet one or more of the Principles are encouraged to apply.
In addition, both Built by Nature and the judging panel will consider the intended use of the building and its broader social and environmental impact. Projects that contribute meaningfully to recognised public and/ or environmental benefits will be favourably considered.
4. Consent and Declaration
By submitting an application, entrants agree to the Declaration and Consent Agreement of the Prize, endorse the Principles for Responsible Timber Construction, and accept the GDPR data processing policy. Entrants must ensure all information provided is accurate, truthful, and complete.
5. Intellectual Property
Entrants retain ownership of their intellectual property. However, by submitting an application, entrants grant Built by Nature the right to use project information and images for promotional purposes, including showcasing winning projects at high-profile events, in a documentary film, and on the Built by Nature Knowledge Hub.
6. Confidentiality
All information submitted will be treated as confidential and will only be used for the purposes of judging the Prize and promoting the winning projects. Built by Nature will not disclose any confidential information to third parties without the entrant’s consent.
7. Liability
Built by Nature is not responsible for any costs incurred by entrants in preparing and submitting their applications. Built by Nature reserves the right to modify or cancel the Prize at any time without prior notice.
8. Notification
Nominees will be announced in September 2025, and winners will be revealed at the annual Built by Nature Summit in October 2025. All entrants will be notified of the outcome of their application.
9. Governing Law
These terms and conditions are governed by the laws of the European Union. Any disputes arising from the Prize will be subject to the exclusive jurisdiction of the courts of the Netherlands.
