Nydalen Fabrikker

OMTRE. Norway

Industrial space reimagined for local innovation.

This 490 m² retrofit transforms a former factory into a one-storey circular innovation hub. Once a cornerstone of Oslo’s industry, the site now houses workshops, offices, and events promoting sustainability and social entrepreneurship. The project reactivates industrial legacy for community benefit and to advance a circular urban culture. It supports local innovators, businesses, and residents in building resilient futures.

Reclaimed timber—sourced, graded, and supplied locally by OMTRE—forms structural frames, partitions, cladding, and interiors. Modular detailing and design-for-disassembly ensure adaptability and minimal waste. Mass timber panels with 75% reclaimed wood demonstrate new reuse potential. By achieving negative embodied carbon, creating jobs in circular timber industries, and hosting knowledge exchange, Nydalen Fabrikker creates a model for regenerative urban redevelopment.
