Parkarena Furth im Wald

str.ucture GmbH. Bavaria, Germany

Inspired design showcases a sustainable community space.

The Parkarena – a 1,435 m², single-storey timber gridshell cultural venue with capacity to host up to 450 people. Built for the 2025 State Garden Exhibition, it replaces a deteriorated hall and provides a lasting community hub, providing residents and visitors access to a sustainable event space.

It’s reciprocal timber gridshell, made from locally sourced glulam, uses straight members to achieve double-curved geometry with minimal material. A demountable node system enables disassembly and reuse, while a micro-pile foundation minimises soil disturbance.

The Parkarena reduces embodied carbon by avoiding conventional foundations and maximising efficiencies of timber construction. It illustrates how visionary design, sustainable forestry, and circular engineering can converge in an inspiring civic landmark.
