Stadium of Life

rise international. Maseru, Lesotho

Africa’s largest timber stadium as mixed-use community landmark.

Africa’s first FSC-certified timber stadium, the 900 m², four-storey Stadium of Life houses education, recreation, and commercial use facilities on an 11,257 m² community pitch. It provides a permanent home for Kick4Life FC, a football club and social enterprise dedicated to youth empowerment. Responding to Lesotho’s shortage of sports and cultural infrastructure, Stadium of Life delivers education, health, and community development programmes while strengthening identity and opportunity for vulnerable youth.

The project has trained more than 30 local builders, several advancing to assume leadership roles. Constructed without heavy machinery and incorporating FSC-certified gum poles from South Africa and local sandstone, the project exemplifies low-carbon, circular design—setting a benchmark for sustainable, socially impactful infrastructure worldwide.
