WorkStack
dRMM. London, United Kingdom
Repurposing industrial land for cost-effective workspaces.
WorkStack is a five-storey, 1,569 m² industrial building that reimagines urban production space. Developed by Greenwich Enterprise Board and designed by dRMM, it houses 14 workshops for light industry and creative businesses on a compact brownfield plot.
The first of its type in the UK, the project transforms industrial land into high-density, affordable workspace that supports local economies and SMEs. Its cantilevered, stacked form maximises usable floor area while minimising its footprint.
Constructed with cross-laminated timber and glulam from PEFC- and FSC-certified European forests, the building stores 343 tonnes of carbon. Exposed CLT eliminates the need for interior finishes, while prefabrication reduces construction process waste.
WorkStack represents a unique model for climate-positive, space-efficient urban development.
