Bauhütte 4.0

Simon Kimmel

The Bauhütte 4.0 as catalyst. Linking the key players in the region with necessary resources and knowledge, creating a transformative force for a seamlessly integrated process chain for urban timber construction. Our mission is sustainable urban transformation, establishing a strong actors’ network along a regional forest-to-city value chain to address urban growth, housing shortages, and climate change.

The Bauhütte 4.0 promotes affordable, appealing housing using wood as a bio-based renewable resource, linking the values of the Bauhüttenbewegung initiated by August Ellinger and Martin Wagner with latest technology and Industry 4.0 principles.

Situated in the metropolitan area of Berlin-Brandenburg and following years of in-depth research on wood construction principles, value chain creation and process chain optimisation, the Bauhütte 4.0 play a pivotal role for boosting wood construction. The research also contained potential analysis of the wood construction industry and of urban growth unison with nature.

Collaborating with actors across the value chain, aiming to seamlessly connect the forest to the city, fostering innovative wood construction solutions for sustainability and efficiency.

A series of curated workshops aims to clarify the challenges and barriers for its specific members, and provides a platform for developing pathways to solution. The results will be mitigated through the network, strengthening the existing network and strategically expanding it.
