Commercial Timber Building Guidebook
Fostering cross-sector industry alignment on solutions to ensure the widespread adoption of large-scale mass timber offices.
James Souter
Structural Engineering DirectorThis project's main output is the Commercial Timber Buildings Guidebook, a good-practice design & risk-mitigation guidance for mass timber office buildings in the UK aimed at addressing insurance & fire-safety challenges and demonstrating industry-wide consensus from a technical and competency standpoint.
Elliott Wood, a leading UK structural engineering consultancy, is leading a consortium composed of technical and design experts Waugh Thistleton Architects and OFR Consultants, insurance experts Lignum Risk Partners and most of the UK’s largest private developers (see list below) to co-develop a technical guidebook for large-scale mass timber offices. In addition to alignment on design, the guidebook will help demonstrate that a wide-ranging coalition of the biggest industry stakeholders in the UK has reached a consensus on how to mitigate the most prevalent risks on large and complex timber developments.
Developers involved in the project include Stanhope PLC, Related Argent, Lendlease, British Land, Derwent, Landsec, MUSE, BEAM and Great Portland Estates.
