New Model Building
An innovative and cost-efficient approach to building pre-warrantied, multi-storey mass timber housing

Waugh Thistleton Architects in collaboration with expert fire engineers at University College London and structural engineers at Buro Happold has developed the New Model Building as a set of pre-warrantied design principles and guidance for multistorey residential mass timber building in the UK.
The set of technical documents demonstrates how engineered timber can be effectively used to construct multistorey residential buildings, in full compliance with UK building regulations. The objective is to secure a letter of comfort from the National House-Building Council, that approves a pre-warrantied design, which then provides guidance, clarity and confidence for designers, developers, insurers and investors to choose for mass-timber.
